The Sri Lanka Tourism Alliance has introduced “The Sri Lanka Travel Expert,” the country’s first travel agent training portal, in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This initiative aims to enhance tourism expertise and promote Sri Lanka as a preferred destination. Malik J. Fernando, Chair of the Tourism Alliance, highlighted the platform’s comprehensive training modules designed to equip agents with the necessary skills and insights. With support from the EU and USAID, the portal offers resources, best practices, and industry insights to empower travel agents.
Shehan Ramanayake, Director of the Tourism Resilience Program (TRP), emphasized the portal’s role in showcasing Sri Lankan experiences to the world. The interactive platform features multimedia content and thematic itineraries to enhance learning. Upon completion of training modules and certification, travel agents receive a “Travel Expert” badge, recognizing their expertise in promoting Sri Lanka. This initiative reflects the Tourism Alliance’s commitment to resilience and sustainability in the tourism sector by investing in professional development to enhance the visitor experience, boost destination competitiveness, and drive economic growth.
