Sri Lanka has officially launched the Digital Nomad Visa to boost its tourism sector. To qualify, applicants must have a monthly income of at least $2,000, which should be directed through the Sri Lankan banking system. The visa is renewable annually with a required minimum bank balance and a $500 application fee, covering the spouse and dependents.
Holders of this visa are not permitted to work or engage in economic activities within the country. The initiative aims to attract remote workers, freelancers, and digital nomads, diversify revenue streams, and enhance long-term economic stability. Similar visas are offered by other countries like Malaysia, New Zealand, and Portugal.
